ORGANIC-INTENSIVE FARM AND ROTATING PASTURE IN ARID ZONE

Permaculture, agroforestry and small livestock

Paturage tournant , regeneration des sols, gestion Holistique des territoires

Design of an intensive organic farm to supply local networks in the Marrakech region on the agroforestry model integrating holistic grazing corridors (Allan Savary).

Implementation of the project

My mission: Creation of the design, implementation and realization of the project with the formation of a team.

  • Arboriculture, installation of fruit tree corridors,

  • Market gardening, installation of an intensive organic plot

     (Martin Fortier model),

  • Production of cereals and green manures in corridors in agroforestry,

  • Small livestock: goats, ewes on rotating pasture,

  • Poultry farming: broilers and laying hens in rotating pasture,

  • Composting area for recycling cow manure from a dairy farm,

  • Wild area to accommodate beehives,

  • Installation of an organic diversity hedge (785m linear),

  • Planting of 4076 plants:  739 fruit trees, 740 small fruits, 667 trees / hedge shrubs, 1610 companion trees (Fabacéa), 320 diversified and melliferous zone (5) wild.

DESIGN

Intensive organic farm with rotating pasture

  • 9 hectares in mixed farming, pasture corridors under green manure, fodder, fruit trees.

  • Market gardening on 7000m² in agroforestry (tree line every 10m).

  • Installation of arboreal corridors (fruit trees and companions) with grazing corridors and green manure cycle.

  • The goal is to have areas of soil regeneration optimized by the management of animal passage.

  • A 2500m² alfalfa production area (fodder).

LOCATION

Implementation of design elements

  • Installation of anti-erosion swales,

  • Market gardening area (5000m² in phase 1 and 2000m² in addition in phase 2),

  • Double hedge fences,

  • Rotating pasture corridors,

  • Installation of irrigation on 9 ha.

LAUNCH OF CROPS

Intensive organic market gardening on the Martin Fortier model

  • First zone of 5000m² in market gardening with agroforestry,

  • Two greenhouse crops for the winter,

  • Drip Irrigation,

  • A second plot of 2000m² in bean / potato rotation and various vegetables according to the seasons,

  • Compost amendment between each crop and rotation.

WINDBREAKERS AND PASTURE CORRIDORS IN AGROFORESTRY

Protective hedges, installation of grazing corridors

  • Planting of 4,500 diversified plants over 9 ha,

  • Double curtain hedges against the wind,

  • Pasture corridors planted with fruit trees.

GREEN FERTILIZER CYCLE

Soil regeneration and animal feed

  • About ten plants were chosen for their resilience, nitrogen inputs, biomass and nutritional qualities.

  • Spores of symbiotic fungi were inoculated at the time of semi-seed to activate soil life.

  • Broadcast sowing, the seeds will be watered by the seasonal rains.

ROTATING PASTURE, POULTRY FARMING

Small farm of chickens, chickens and sheep

  • Launch of a small poultry production unit.

  • Manufacture of a chicken trailer for movement in the rotating corridors.

  • Training of the shepherds to walk in the pasture corridors to protect the trees.

  • Installation of a movable fence for the hens and for the sheep if there is no shepherd to watch them.

GREENHOUSE CULTURE

Autumn and spring cultivation

  • Greenhouse cultivation allows production to start earlier in the season and extend it by a few months.

  • It is useful for starting seedlings earlier in the season and transplanting them at the most opportune moment.

  • A greenhouse that is heated (very energy intensive and not environmentally friendly!) Can produce all year round.

  • For small greenhouses warm layered compost solutions can prevent the frosts of the colder months.

THE VEGETABLES

Harvesting and conditioning of vegetables

  • Organic market,

  • Baskets.
